VST – Second Place Commercial in SDS2 Solids Steel Competition

This project was a design build project that incorporated state of the art processes that have only been done by Virtual Steel Technologies. The job was initially constructed in SDS from the Structural Revit model. The project required that the following “models” were the governing design documents and not paper based 2D design documents.
- Architectural Revit Model
- Structural Revit Model
- Precast Model
- Joist Model
All subsequent information, such as elevations, slab edge, stair and mechanical openings, coordination with other trades such as joist and deck etc. were derived and coordinated from the aforementioned governing models.
The other major process that was utilized on this project was full virtual approval pioneered by VST and Fitzpatrick Engineering. The SDS2 Approval module was utilized to approve this project, by the various approving authorities in real time, not digital FedEX. Each design team member logged on to a real time cloud based SDS2 Model for instantaneous communication and approval through the model. Approval took only days instead of weeks. Fabrication and Erection took place almost simultaneously. No other company has accomplished this in the world, a VST first.
SDS Erector and Fabrication modules were used to aid in understanding some of the complex weldments on the supper trusses.
